First animals move into new Safari Hotel Beekse Bergen
First animals move into new Safari Hotel Beekse Bergen
Normally they watch the cars drive by on the plains at Beekse Bergen, now they are in them themselves. The Nubian giraffes drove across the zoo's car safari yesterday and today to their new stay: the savannahs of the new Safari Hotel, about 300 meters away.
The giraffes moved into the brand new barn that had previously housed watoos, Ostriches and zebras. Later this month, two broad-lipped rhinos will also move here. These animals come from Safaripark or other zoos in Europe.
The animals will spend the first few days in the barn getting used to their new environment. In the coming weeks, the animals will also explore the newly constructed Wongo Savannahs. "This way, the animals have every chance to quietly get used to their new environment before the first guests arrive," says zookeeper Rolf Veenhuizen.
March 24 open
The hotel will open on March 24. Surrounding the savannahs are eight units containing a total of 112 rooms and suites, all of which come with hotel service. All rooms have a double bed and sitting area, an extra bedroom, bathroom with bathtub and a large window overlooking the savannahs. There are three bedrooms in the suites, in addition to a spacious sitting and dining area, bathroom and sauna. A number of wheelchair-friendly rooms will also be created. All rooms have a terrace or balcony overlooking the savannahs.
The architecture and interior of these accommodations is inspired by the Dogon people. This population group from Mali lives in very distinctive houses, built of yellow stone and clay and with round, thatched roofs. This will also be reflected in the center building, which will house a number of multifunctional (meeting) rooms, an a la carte restaurant and a breakfast and buffet restaurant. For example, the interior of the restaurants is inspired by stories and figures from the Dogon culture.
