First offspring on savannahs at Safari Hotel

First offspring born on savannahs at recently opened Safari Hotel

The first young animal, a Grèvy's zebra, was born on the Wongo Savannah near the recently opened Safari Hotel. The foal was born last Wednesday. The mother and young mare are doing well.

In the wild, the Grèvy's zebra is threatened with extinction. Habitat is disappearing due to agricultural development and food supplies are scarce due to competition from cattle. With the birth of the foal, Beekse Bergen, through its European management program, is contributing to a healthy reserve population.

The Safari Hotel festively opened at the end of March. On the savannah, in addition to Grèvy's zebras, there are also Nubian giraffes, white rhinos, Ostriches, water cattle and Sable antelope.
