Young giraffes explore plains for first time in Safaripark

The four newborn giraffes at Safaripark Beekse Bergen explored the plains for the first time today. Bata, Kito, Milele and Ziggy took their first steps on the savannahs in the sunshine, amid great interest from visitors and animal keepers.

Head of animal care Rolf Veenhuizen says, "They quietly explored the plain, with everything still exciting, of course. Everything is new for them. The mothers stay nearby and take good care of the young, the herd stays together nicely. It's all going very relaxed."

In the coming time, the young giraffes will become increasingly accustomed to their new surroundings. Veenhuizen: "They are playful and curious and it is fantastic to see how they develop. From now on, we hope they can go outside for a while every day, weather permitting. And if that is not the case, visitors can admire them in the visitors' area near the stable."
