Fun and interesting lessons in the Classroom

The Classroom focuses on the African theme. During the lessons, students will learn all about the relationship between humans and animals, the layout of the animal kingdom or biodiversity. To make it an impressive lesson, the rangers show special materials, such as horns, fur and poop.

Human-animal relations

Discover how animals and humans interact in Africa. What is the relationship between them? To which animals are mysterious myths attached? And how do we treat animals in the Safaripark?

Elementary education undergrad:
During this lesson we look at how people care for different animals, what the animals in Safaripark eat and how a food chain works.

Elementary Education Upper School:
In this lesson we look at the what different relationships people have with animals, how people's attitudes toward animals in Africa can be different than here in the Netherlands, and what conflicts arise between humans and animals in Africa.

Secondary Education and MBO:
During this lesson we will look at the different relationships humans have with animals, the impact humans can have on animal species and the effect this can have on the ecosystem an animal lives in.

What kind of animal is that?

Discover how we can classify animals into different groups. What animal groups are there? What are the characteristics of the five groups of vertebrates? Are there any exceptions?

Elementary education undergrad:
During this lesson, we will look at how to classify animals into different groups. We will look at the characteristics of the five groups of vertebrates: mammals, fish, reptiles, birds and amphibians.

Elementary Education Upper School:
In this lesson we will look at the five groups of vertebrates: mammals, fish, reptiles, birds and amphibians. We will look at the characteristics of the different groups and learn how to classify vertebrates.

Secondary Education and MBO:
During this lesson we will look at the history of taxonomy. We will learn about the layout into kingdom, division, class, order, family, genus and species and look at the characteristics of different animal groups.

Biodiversi-what?

Discover what biodiversity is and why it's so important. Which animals do you find in which habitat? Why do we need different types of plants and animals? What happens when there are too many of one species? Or too few?

Elementary education undergrad:
During this lesson we will look at different habitats: desert, ocean, savannahs and rainforest. What animals live in these areas? We will learn what a food chain is and what happens when part of the food chain disappears.

Elementary Education Upper School:
We will look at different ecosystems during this lesson and discover what happens when an area lacks biodiversity. We also learn what we ourselves can do to increase biodiversity in our own environment.

Secondary Education and MBO:
During this lesson, we will learn why biodiversity is so important. We look at the factors that affect biodiversity and the role humans (including us) can play in it.

Practical information

  • The Classroom can only be reserved from March through October

  • One class lasts 45 minutes

  • Students sit on African school benches

  • Minimum 20 and maximum 43 people

  • A lesson is taught by a ranger, in the presence of one's own teacher
