Northern Corridors Project
Because of the special births of three young African savanna elephants, Mosi, Ajabu and Tendai, and the expansion of the elephant valley in 2023, we wanted to give more back to elephants in the wild. Because the elephants at our have been given more space, we chose a project that also literally gives the animals in Kenya more room to move. This is a project of Save The Elephants: the Northern Corridors Project. Thanks to the support of our visitors, Stichting Wildlife and Beekse Bergen managed to donate €60,000 for the construction of a corridor in 2024!

Follow our trip to Kenya
We did it, the corridor has been built! Yvonne Vogels, head zookeeper of the elephants, and Klaas-Jan Leinenga, head of education and conservation and board member of Stichting Wildlife, travel to Kenya together. There, they visit the corridor and see whether it offers a solution to the human-animal conflict in the area. In addition, Benjamin from Save The Elephants will take Yvonne and Klaas-Jan to different nature reserves, villages and previously constructed corridors. Follow the live report of this special trip via the link below.
About the project

What is a corridor?
As Africa's population has grown, the habitat of wild elephants has become increasingly fragmented, resulting in human-animal conflicts. In their search for food, the animals come (too) close to villages, destroying crops, buildings and farmland. It is also becoming increasingly difficult to find suitable mates to breed with.
The Northern Corridors Project offers a solution: safe corridors connecting nature parks in Kenya. This allows elephants and other animals to travel long distances without crossing inhabited areas. A win-win situation where the elephants and population can live in harmony. The construction of one corridor required 60,000 euros. In the video you can see how the preparations for this special project went.

Corridor in the Safaripark
The Elephant Valley, one of the elephant habitats in Safaripark Beekse Bergen, was expanded in 2023 due to the arrival of the young elephants. A corridor has now been created in the valley, connecting the two plains. As a visitor, you can walk underneath this.
