Our contribution to nature conservation
At Beekse Bergen, you come face to face with many interesting, special and impressive animal species. But did you know that many of these species have a status ranging from 'vulnerable' to 'critically endangered'? Beekse Bergen is committed to preserving and protecting nature, both at home and abroad. On this page you can read about the ways in which we are committed to nature conservation.
How do we contribute?

Protection of nature
Beekse Bergen is committed to protecting nature through Stichting Wildlife. They support nearly thirty projects around the world, from North Brabant to South Africa. In doing so, they help very many animals, from the black bee to the African elephant.

Working together for species conservation
Many species you see with us have endangered status. That's why European parks work together to preserve these species. For example, almost all animals are born in Safaripark or moved from another park. Did you know that some animals are returned to the wild?

Protecting native nature
Beekse Bergen is home to many animal and plant species that do not belong to the collection. These are native species: they originate in the Netherlands and are adapted to our climate. Did you know that many native species also have "endangered" status?

Research
Research is very important for protecting and preserving endangered species and their habitats. This way we learn a lot about the animals and how we can help them. This is why Beekse Bergen does a lot of research and contributes to others' projects.

Education
Love for animals and nature is fostered at the Safaripark. A main task of Beekse Bergen is to provide good education. The park teaches you everything about the animals and inspires you in the field of nature protection and conservation.

Nature Restoration Project in Madagascar
Together with twelve other Dutch zoos, all members of the Dutch Association of Zoos (NVD), we are working on a major nature restoration project in Madagascar. In this way, we are helping not only the animals in the Safaripark, but also their counterparts on the other side of the world.

Follow Kelly’s journey to South Africa
In December 2025, animal carer Kelly had the opportunity to spend two weeks working at SANCCOB in South Africa. Her aim was to share knowledge about the care of African penguins and to support this species in the wild. Back in the Netherlands, we spoke to Kelly about this extraordinary journey. She learnt and experienced an incredible amount, from assisting the vets at the sanctuary to releasing penguins at Boulders Beach. Read more about her impressive journey via the link below.

Our visit to Kenya
Thanks to the support of our visitors, Beekse Bergen and Stichting Wildlife donated €60,000 to Save the Elephants in 2024. This money was used to build a corridor in Kenya: a safe passage for elephants and wildlife.
Klaas-Jan and Yvonne are travelling to Kenya to admire the corridor and work with Save the Elephants to investigate the challenges elephants face in the wild. You can follow this impressive journey in our blog.
